The UK’s largest fragrance retailer, The Perfume Shop, has annouced the launch of the nation’s most extensive perfume bottle recycling service, as part of a wider sustainability initiative to combat unnecessary waste within the industry.  

The Perfume Shop initially unveiled its unprecedented perfume bottle recycling and reuse initiative in 2018. However, the fragrance retailer is now expanding the scheme to encompass all 211 stores in the UK.  

Consumers can often be confused on how to best dispose of glass perfume bottles correctly. The scheme removes the confusion and hassle for customers, ensuring that perfume bottles are recycled and residual amounts of the scent is disposed of correctly. 

As part of the scheme, customers will be able to simply drop off their empty perfume bottles into the newly installed recycling units instore and will receive a 15% discount to purchase any fragrance of their choice, an increase on the previously offered 10%.  

The fragrance retailer has also announced that it will make a donation to the Eden Reforestation Projects to plant a tree for every bottle recycled in the scheme.  

Since the Perfume Shop partnered with the Eden Reforestation Projects in April 2021, the fragrance retailer has recycled over 7,282 empty bottles and planted nearly 400,000 trees. Further to the recycling scheme, the Perfume Shop will be planting a tree for every bottle that was sold both online and instore on the 25th March 2023.  

Gill Smith, Managing Director for The Perfume Shop, says: “When we launched the bottle recycling initiative, it was the first of its kind for perfume bottles, which we hadn’t seen before. We knew we wanted our loyal customers to both smell good but also feel good when they were aware what they could do with their empty fragrance bottles”.
